Happenings On The Hill!
Ridge Hill unveils historic hand drawn panorama of Hudson River joining the Kindo mural that went on display in October 2014
Ridge Hill is a great place to SHOP, DINE and PLAY – and to enjoy terrific works of art! Come to Ridge Hill and view the latest art addition, Wade and Croome’s Panorama of the Hudson River from New York to Waterford (1847). Originally published as a 6” x 12’ accordion folded way-finding map, captioned with points of interest, artist William Wade drew each riverbank along the way as if viewed from the water. The piece is an excellent example of early American cartography, with its detailed information and hybrid of aerial and eye-level views that were innovative for the time, while also depicting the history of the Hudson in both commerce and recreation.
The mural is located on the second level at Ridge Hill, in the hallway adjacent to Guitar Center. It is on view during the center’s business hours.
Another art offering at Ridge Hill is Kindo’s “Connections” mural In an effort to promote local artists and enhance the strong sense of community at Ridge Hill, Forest City Ratner Companies, commissioned local New York artist Kindo Harper to paint a 4,500 square foot mural along the wall leading from the REI and Dick’s Sporting Goods parking lot into Fountain Plaza. The mural is a graffiti style piece based on the connectivity of Yonkers throughout the years and features transportation themes. The artist drew inspiration from his daughter when he thought: “If I was a kid walking through here, what would I want to see?”
Stay tuned for future Ridge Hill announcements of other exciting new art projects! We look forward to seeing you at Ridge Hill!
